Golda Meir, the only woman to become Prime Minister of Israel, was known for her leadership and her sharp wit. One of her famous sayings shows a deep truth about people:
“Don’t be so humble, you are not that great.”
It took me a few years to really understand this quote. At first, it seems like a funny comment about people who are too modest. But it also teaches something important about humility. True humility is rare — it happens when someone who is really accomplished stays modest. Most people seem humble because they haven’t done something extraordinary; their humility is ordinary.
In my view, real humility comes from real achievement. The truly exceptional can be modest because their actions already show their worth. Humor, like Golda Meir’s, helps us see the truth: the best kind of humility comes from knowing your strengths but not bragging about them.
This quote also reminds us that humility isn’t about downplaying yourself; it’s about being confident enough in your abilities to stay grounded and let your actions speak.
