Above the Sky: Lessons on Moving Forward

There’s no subject in science called darkness—only the absence of light.
No subject called coldness—only the absence of heat.

And perhaps that’s how life works too. We focus too often on what’s missing, forgetting that beauty begins where we choose to see the light.

Three Metres Above the Sky

One of my favorite films is the Spanish classic Tres Metros Sobre el Cielo (Three Steps Above Heaven). In it, the protagonist loses both his best friend and his girlfriend. Yet, he doesn’t spiral into self-pity or bitterness. The final voice-over still echoes in my mind:

“No matter how hard you try, you’ll never feel the same again.”

That line hit deep.

It’s true—some events change us permanently. But every heartbreak, loss, or dead-end is also a new beginning. Like dawn that gently erases the memory of night.

You can’t enjoy a book if you keep rereading the same chapter. So why keep reliving old pain when life is patiently holding out a fresh page?

Push the World Before It Pushes You

Success is rarely about brilliance. It’s about effort.

Take Sir Richard Branson—a school dropout, dyslexic, and yet one of the most successful entrepreneurs on Earth (and soon, beyond). He founded over 400 companies, from airlines to space tourism.

In The Virgin Way, Branson recalls how his mother once told him after he was dismissed in a cricket match:

“Ricky, just remember—you’re guaranteed to miss every shot you don’t take.”

That one line encapsulates the spirit of doing. Of trying. Of not sitting at the metaphorical bus stop, waiting for life to pick you up.

Try. Fail. Try again. Success is not luck—it’s a game of averages. The more you play, the higher your chances of winning.

So, what’s holding you back?

Is it the weight of the past? The fear of failing again? Or the comfort of the familiar?

Remember:

  • Darkness is simply the absence of light.
  • Cold is simply the absence of heat.
  • Stagnation is simply the absence of courage.

Push the world, or the world will push you.
Choose to turn the page. Step into the light. And fly… above the sky.
