Life rarely moves in a straight line. As we walk our own journeys, we often find ourselves taking unexpected detours — some small, some significant. In these moments, it’s easy to feel lost or frustrated. But over time, I’ve come to see that these wrong turns carry their own quiet wisdom.
They teach us.
They humble us.
And often, they shape us far more than the smooth, predictable paths ever could.
Here is a simple reflection I wrote to capture this thought:
WRONG TURNS
I’ve discovered many wrong turns
On this journey to eternity.
Sometimes a new one,
Sometimes, different.
Mistakes are never fatal —
But not learning from them is.
It is the wrong turns
That keep a traveler on the right path.
What is the value of beauty
If there are no ugly ducklings?
What is wealth worth
If there are no poor?
Greatness is conquered along the way,
Not at the destination.
Destiny is only the proof
That greatness was earned.
It is the greatness of a traveler
That shapes the road —
Even when many wrong turns
Could not be avoided.
When we make peace with our missteps, we begin to realize that they are not failures, but part of the journey itself. Without them, we may never find the strength, the perspective, or the resilience we need to grow.
Every wrong turn carries the seed of a lesson — and sometimes, it’s these very detours that lead us exactly where we need to be.
